Learn Speak Teach Episode 22!

Billions have been discriminated against throughout history because of their race, religion, or socioeconomic status. However, many have overcome these barriers and achieved the American Dream.

Jevon McCormick, who joins us in this episode, is one of the many examples of individuals that have achieved massive success despite incredible adversity.

Jevon was born the son of a black pimp father and a white single mother on welfare. Poverty, abuse, eviction, and discrimination were a daily part of his life.

Today, he is currently the President and CEO of Scribe Media (formerly Book In A Box), a multi-million dollar publishing company that helps entrepreneurs, executives, and experts write, publish, and market their books. He is also a speaker and the author of “I Got There:: How a Mixed-Race Kid Overcame Racism, Poverty, and Abuse to Arrive at the American Dream.” He lives in Austin, Texas, with his wife, Megan, and their four children.

In today’s episode, we explore where we came from, where we are, and where we’re going in the world of leadership and business. The future is about PEOPLE — putting people first in a way that doesn’t sacrifice profit but actually amplifies it.

Notable Quotes

~ “A company’s success relies on collective effort, so it’s impossible for one person to have the power to carry the whole enterprise. A team of people know more about what is going on and are better able to connect with the customers than just one person.”

~ “Great people will build great processes, which enables you to make great profits. This allows you to make great things for the community that you live and work in. It’s a simple success recipe: People. Process. Profits”

~ “Never judge anyone, because everyone has their story and you do not know about it.”
